Special Guest - Doug Bruno
Head Coach of the DePaul Blue Demons Women's Basketball Team

Picture
Doug Bruno’s powerful impact on the game he loves resonates across the entire spectrum of women’s basketball as not only a highly successful college coach and staunch advocate of academics, but a passionate and undaunted promoter of the sport itself. The former DePaul basketball player who is forever grateful to the athletic scholarship he received from legendary Blue Demon coach Ray Meyer is heading into his 38th season as the head coach at his alma mater. Born and raised in Chicago and a product of Quigley South High School, Bruno has transformed DePaul women’s basketball into a steadfast national power. He has guided the Blue Demons to 18 NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 19 years the tournament was held---a feat matched only by the NCAA elite of Connecticut, Stanford and Tennessee. Bruno's program made its 25th NCAA tournament appearance in 2021-22. DePaul qualified for its 18th-straight NCAA Tournament in 2020 after winning a three-peat BIG EAST Tournament title. The NCAA canceled the 2020 NCAA Tournament because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Blue Demons were 28-5 in the 2019-20 season and on track to host the opening two rounds of the NCAA Tournament as a top-16 seed. They won the BIG EAST regular-season crown with a 15-3 record. On June 11, 2022, Bruno was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn.

Benote Wimp
Camp Leader

Benote is excited to be again leading the first Catholic Basketball Camp! His love for basketball began in the alleys of Chicago when his friends in his neighborhood said he couldn’t or didn’t know how to play the game. He played four years of high school hoops at Quigley Seminar South.  He then attended Niles College of Loyola, Chicago (College Seminary) before transferring t0 and graduating from Illinois State University. After Graduation, he returned as an Assistant Coach at Quigley South. Other great coaching stops before he left teaching was at Providence New Lenox (Assistant), Andrew H.S. (Head Women’s), and finally Elgin Senior H.S. as an Assistant. He is a State Farm Agency owner in Downers Grove, a Fourth Degree Knight, and an active member of his parish community.
